Hosting?

How is this hosted? Is it a one man band thing?
I am a bit loath to commit time adding all my hills, to something that may fold if you stop maintaining it.

What happens if you get run over by a bus?
(don't wanna tempt fate, but it's an important point)

It's currently hosted on

It's currently hosted on GoDaddy, but I'll put it somewhere else if the traffic gets heavy enough to warrant a change.

It is essentially a "one man band", and I guess the only way I can prove that I'll keep it alive is by referring you to other sites that I've created. You can see my portfolio at http://codebaboon.com. One of the oldest sites I have is http://durbanscouts.za.net/ which has been around since January 2006. Loads of people have committed time to writing articles for free without worry.

As for me getting killed, I will add a special clause in my will that dedicates the $4 a month required for the next 10 years of hosting Hill Bomb. :D

Seriously though, once you've created the data, it's yours to keep. Just keep local copies of the KMZ files, and the pictures/videos, and then you won't lose anything.

Because I'm only one person, doesn't make the site more likely to close down. Just look at Microsoft, which launched MSN music but is now shutting it down by closing the Digital Rights Management servers, essentially locking all the music down to whatever device it's currently on.

So yeah, big companies will screw paying customers. Hill Bomb is still small, and ultimately doesn't cost you anything except your time if you want to participate, and ultimately you won't lose your data in the unlikely event of it closing.

Also, remember I put a large

Also, remember I put a large amount of time into creating the site, plus I also use it a lot! It forms part of my portfolio of websites - I'm not just going to throw away a major investment, especially something that hardly costs me any money to maintain!
